At The Greening of Detroit, our mission is to guide and "inspire" people throughout the community to create a greener Detroit. Check out the links below for some photos of the projects that are meeting this goal, like Green Connections -- our police station beautification program that not only helped to make the precincts more inviting with trees and plants, but also created new partnerships between the Detroit Police Department and city residents.

Or take a look at Detroit's Urban Farm at Romanowski Park, a collaborative effort of community organizations and the City of Detroit that transformed a a 26-acre park located in southwest Detroit into a thriving community resource with a two-acre farm plot, teaching pavilion, playground with integrated teaching gardens, a fruit tree orchard, a sugar maple grove, a 1-mile walking trail, soccer complex, and numerous athletic fields.

How about our work in the Empowerment Zone? In 2002, The Greening was selected to lead a massive clean-up and restoration project over a three-year period. With the help of countless volunteers, we restored 1,370 vacant lots in neighborhoods hard-hit by deforestation and blight, helping to revitalize these communities.

And check out the link for our Detroit 300 project that describes our work with the city's 300 Committee. In 2001, the committee chose The Greening to serve as the lead agency to plant trees citywide in honor of Detroit's 300th Birthday. In all, we planted 1701 trees - representative of the year Detroit became a city - in parks, playfields and vacant lots.

We think we've made a good start, but there's still a lot of work left to do. How can we "inspire" you?
