The Greening guides and inspires others to transform miles of public and private open space, including some of Detroit's 60,000 vacant lots, into usable, valuable resources. Parks, medians, streetscapes, pocket parks, greenways and gateways will be greened with 45,000 trees, over 423 vegetable gardens, numerous perennial gardens and shrubs.
The Greening's open space projects begin with community planning, incorporate vacant lot reclamation, cleanup and replanting and always include a maintenance plan to ensure that the projects are sustainable over the long term.
