The expansion of our tree planting efforts is well under way; almost every Saturday this Fall and one Sunday, we\'ll be planting trees throughout Detroit. We are looking for 2,000 energetic volunteers to help us continue to beautify Detroit! Come out an join us for some clean and green fun! KRESGE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS GREENING EXPANSION PLANS
We’re proud to announce that the Kresge Foundation approved a three year $600,000 capacity building grant which will enable The Greening of Detroit to expand it’s staff to manage several multi-year neighborhood based revitalization projects. “We’ll look back at this grant someday and recognize that it helped us move to a new level in providing services. “ says President, Rebecca Salminen Witt, “now we’re just looking forward to getting to work!”
ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY TREES SPOTLIGHTS DETROIT FOR IT’S 2007 NEIGHBORWOODS MONTH
October is National Neighborwoods Month and Alliance for Community Trees, the national community forestry organization that organizes the event each year, has chosen Detroit as one of its focus cities this year. ACT highlighted The Greening of Detroit’s October 20 planting in Detroit’s Sherwood Forest Neighborhood, supported by the city of Detroit as part of it’s Next Detroit Neighborhood Initiative. The Neighborwoods Program is funded by The Home Depot Foundation which hopes to make tree planting an activity that is embraced by every city.
