Mmm… Caffeine

Caffeine

Even with the splash Bing made upon its release, Google still dominates the search market, with Nielsen ratings showing a 65% share of searches as of April 2010. But, the best defense is a good offense, and Google has started showing off some of that offense in the form of their revamped search algorithm, code-named “Caffeine.” Based on the name alone, Media Genesis can be considered fans.

What’s changed? Well, it’s faster, crawls more of the web, and is probably more accurate. This accuracy is of course desirable, but it also brings up the question, at least to people in the web business: what does “accurate” mean? How will this affect search engine optimization?

The real answer is, of course, still up in the air, but preliminary analysis reinforces something we’ve known for a while. Real good, relevant content will rule the day. Also important is a social media presence, since Google has put an emphasis on social media in Caffeine, and updating your site regularly. Guess what does both at once? An integrated Twitter feed! Or any number of options, really. The takeaway here is to stay open to innovative ideas for SEO. And check this space often. Especially the second one.
