Saying Farewell to an Old Website

With the launch of our shiny, new website, we’d like to say goodbye to our old site, so farewell, MediaG ’09.

MediaG ’09, you started out with great potential. You had a consistent banner and navigation, social media integration, and a custom Content Management System (CMS). For these qualities, we loved you. You were a huge improvement on your predecessor. But, MediaG ’09, all good things must come to an end.

We had some great times together. Remember April 1, 2010, when we posted that article about the clown college, and it haunted our SEO for the next two years? Yeah, that was great.

Your custom CMS was amazing back in 2009, but all those features we created for you can now be found in a robust, open source WordPress CMS. And let’s be honest, modern WordPress CMS administrative tools offer us more than you ever could.

We’re sorry, MediaG ’09, but your design, like an avocado-green refrigerator, didn’t age well and can only be appreciated in retrospective irony. Your features once pushed against the front line of internet technology, but that line moved long ago. We know you still load quickly, and you still offer a consistent stream of fresh content, but that’s just not enough for us anymore. We need responsive web design, dynamic content sorting, and a new look.

It’s not your fault, MediaG ’09. A website should be updated every few years to take advantage of changing technology and design best practices. You gave us a solid three years, and for that, we thank you.

MediaG ’09, we won’t forget you. Yes, we’re moving on, but we know we wouldn’t be who we are today without you. We’ll think of you from time to time, and we’ll smile to ourselves and remember the old days.

Goodbye, MediaG ’09, and thank you for your years of faithful service.
