WPAHS Wins 2012 eHealthcare Leadership Award

West Penn Allegheny Heath System (WPAHS) won silver in the 13th annual eHealthcare Leadership Awards for the Best Doctor Directory at a healthcare system. Cleveland Clinic was the winner of this category, receiving the platinum award. Media Genesis created the WPAHS directory.

The award recognizes the achievements of the health system’s directory in the following areas: ease of finding a doctor who meets the searcher’s needs; organization, breadth, and quality of the information about the doctor; and the facilitation of appointment requests through the directory.

Media Genesis gathered information from focus groups and analyzed current online directories throughout the design process. We designed the directory to be patient-centric, foregrounding the patient’s primary concerns, such as finding a doctor for a specific condition.

The WPAHS directory allows visitors to search for a primary care doctor, search by condition or medical specialty, or search by a physician’s last name. Visitors can also filter their searches by location and gender and narrow their searches by criteria specific to doctor specialties.

Media Genesis developed the directory using a combination of the Drupal open source Content Management System (CMS) and custom programming. The directory database pulls from an internal credentialing system. Media Genesis completed the design in June 2012.

In addition to WPAHS and Cleveland Clinic, other healthcare systems that won in the category of Best Doctor Directory included Mercy, MO and Main Line Health, PA receiving silver and PinnacleHealth System, PA receiving gold.
