Detroit Housing Commission: Website Redesign

The Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) was established in 1933 under the Michigan Housing Facilities Act. As the largest owner of rental housing in the Detroit area, the DHC carries out its mission by providing approximately 4,000 housings units for low-income families and seniors.

The goal of the project with the DHC was to create a revamped website to show public housing properties online. This required improvements in three key areas: design, content, and functionality.

The process:

  • Researched, analyzed, and developed a technical development plan for the website, providing wireframes, sitemaps, flowcharts, and designs to the DHC team along the way
  • Recommended that the DHC better assert its mission statement and member benefits
  • Added a search function and donation button to the website
  • Developed both an administrative and public-facing website, allowing for maximum administrative control
