Operating Engineers 324 (OE324): Streamlining Training Access With SSO

Operating Engineers 324, also known as OE324 is a the Michigan-based union serving skilled trades professionals, continues to modernize its member experience across platforms. In this project, OE324 partnered with Media Genesis to simplify access to its online training website—allowing members to sign up for classes without needing to manage multiple logins. The result: a secure, seamless Single Sign-On (SSO) system that enhances convenience without compromising control.

The Challenge

OE324’s training site, managed by a third-party provider, required a way to verify member access while syncing with OE324’s own user database. The solution needed to be secure, mobile-compatible, and easy to manage on the backend. Above all, it had to simplify the login process for members looking to enroll in training without duplicating identity checks across platforms.

The Approach

Media Genesis developed and implemented a custom SSO solution using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML). This system connects OE324.org with the training platform via secure API calls, allowing the OE324 website to verify user identity and pass credentials through without additional login steps.

Key features included:

• API integration between OE324’s database and the training website
• SAML-based SSO validation, allowing secure cross-platform authentication
• User search functionality within the OE324 system to help staff quickly verify member accounts
• Planning for future 2FA support, laying groundwork for additional security layers as needed

This SSO project laid the technical foundation for a follow-up integration—SSO and 2FA for OE324’s fringe benefit system (Solxsys)—further centralizing and securing digital access for members.

The Outcome

The new login experience removes friction for members while maintaining robust account verification. Now, OE324 members can access training tools quickly, with confidence that their data is secure and up to date. For OE324 staff, the backend systems are more connected and efficient, reducing manual verification steps and improving data integrity.
